On the Moral Role of Judges

The role ethics study of judges is a theoretical one, differentiated from vocational moral study of the judge. The judge is a role cluster including two basic roles of officials and judiciary. Therefore, the role ethics of judgesis not only regulating themselves as professionals, but integrated of the two clusters norms. It reflects the integrated social moral evaluation on judges. As arole of “official, he is entrusted with the special qualities of the servant consciousness of the people, being honest and clean, and impartiality; as a judge, he has the vocational ethics of fortitude, caution, and diligence. The construction of role ethics for judges, takes the unity of the rational and the experienced as the human nature. The main ideas on the whole based on the institutionalmoral construction, are to enhance ideological and moral education, to make rewards and punishments moderately. In a word, it is of great theoretical significance and practical value for moral principles construction of judges, in the theoretical perspective distinguished from vocational morality of judges.
