Abstract: There is a usual objection of virtue ethics that it cannot provide a indespendent standard of right action. Virtue ethics bring about two kinds of responses to the objection. Some virtue ethicists argue that we should substitude virtue concept for the conception of right action, others argue that the conception of right action can be reduced by virtue conception and they provide some explanation of right action. The former is an unplausible response, and the latter is unsuccessful. The structure of virtue ethics cause it unable to provide undependent explanation of right action. The root cause is that virtue ethics and rule ethics are the deferent components of ethics. Virtue ethics is mainly a theory of moral cultivation, and not proper to discourse moral valuation of action.
