Abstract: In one discipline the primary factor of the context is the purposes of discipline. The purpose of Bioethics is protecting human life and related rights, so in its context, "human dignity" has the following characteristics: The dignity of life is the kernel and the dignity of personality is the extended section; It belongs to modern anthropocentric values; In Bioethics "human dignity" plays the roles of guiding resolving the conflicts of the ethical principles, providing the moral arguments for the related rights, providing the guidance for legal and policy, and so on. On the problem of how to deal with people, "human dignity" embodies the moral consensus come from religious and secular, moral and legal, government and civil society, so "human dignity" is a valuable resource for Bioethics.
